Düsseldorf | Germany
24 Hours in Germany just isn't enough time to do much. But hey, I'll take what I can! I'll also take a ton of that hardy food and beer for dinner which seemed to be all they served. I'm not complaining, it was so great and I just love eating what the locals have when traveling.
Our hotel Alt Dusseldorf was in the best location and a super great deal!! For only $55 bucks we stayed in a really great place in the old town area. It took us a whole 15min and $25 dollar cab ride to get here from the airport and we were able to walk everywhere!! The Rhine river divides the city - with AltStadt (old town) on the east and the more modern commercial areas to the west. Along the river we found a lot of restaurants, shops and great photo ops!
Hoftgarten - one of Germany's oldest parks was also very close, I didn't make it down but my family did and they raved about it. Apparently it was comparable to central park in NY. We found a lot of shopping in the area. All the stores and restaurants were so unique and of course had so much history. The buildings were beautiful!
I saw lines outside of this bar called Et Kabuffke, people ordering these little drinks that looked like shots from the street side window. Well turns our this herb liquor called Killepitsch is 42% alcohol and a pretty big deal in Dusseldorf. I wasn't a big fan of the taste but it was fun to be part of that tradition! Another interesting thing I learned was that Brawtwurst isn't served on a bun. Just a single brawt with gravy! All the food we tried was great, the beer was good, the people were all very nice and welcoming which only means I'll have to come back with more time to enjoy more of Germany.
Bis zum nächsten Mal! I'm not even going to pretend I know how to pronounce that! lol
